![]() Since Apple is no longer developing iPhoto (or Aperture, for that matter), I don’t see a need to keep the iPhoto app after you are up and running and satisfied with Photos. It’s fast, it has improved editing tools, and even the loss of star ratings can be worked around (though I’d like to see them return). … If you’re coming from iPhoto, Photos is definitely a step up. ![]() Photos for OS X is a free update that arrives with OS X Yosemite 10.10. 3, released as a free update to users on April 8, 2015. Photos was included with OS X Yosemite 10.10. In June 2014, Apple announced its plan to discontinue the applications iPhoto and Aperture, to be replaced by a new application, Photos, at some point in 2015.
